Important towns and cities
The most important cities and towns are the ancients ones of Lincoln, Nottingham, Bedford, Ely, and Northampton. The largest city and the generally recognised “capital” of the East Midlands is Nottingham. Grimbsy, in northeast Lincolnshire is a fishing port.
